Jakarta – Universitas Pertamina held a public lecture UPbringing Session by presenting Budi Santoso Syarif as the Refinery Director of PT Pertamina (Persero). The topic was about “Opportunity and Sustainability of the Oil and Gas Industry in Indonesia: Oil Refinery Business Challenge” which took place in the 3rd-floor Auditorium, Griya Legita Building, Universitas Pertamina on November 5, 2019.
On this occasion, he told audiences that the Oil & Gas business value chain consists of various processes from upstream to downstream to process crude (crude oil) to end products. Indonesia’s oil reserves are 0.2% of the world, which become the largest in the SEA region, while oil processing capacity in Indonesia is the third-largest in the SEA.
On the other hand, world oil reserves are running low. Most oil owns by OPEC countries. With the current world average consumption of oil, world oil reserves are likely to run out within the next 32 years.
Responding to this, oil entrepreneurs in the world are competing to find renewable energy alternatives (substitute crude), including vegetable oil to be refined into Green Fuel (Biorefinery). Indonesia (through Pertamina) has a Biorefinery development roadmap to produce Biofuel (BBN) and Palm Oil.
At the end of the session, he advised Universitas Pertamina students. “Students can do more things that can increase insights to promote Universitas Pertamina. Also, to be a more critical leader. Be a global leader!”, he said. In the future, Universitas Pertamina will be able to produce graduates who can develop Indonesia, especially PT Pertamina (Persero), towards a more advanced way.
