2019 SPACE UP Provides Millennial Solutions for Superior Energy

Jakarta – Welcoming the 62nd Anniversary of Pertamina on December 10, 2019, Pertamina University through its Student Activities, Research and Scientific Work Unit, held the 2019 Pertamina University Scientific Paper Competition (SPACE UP) with the theme “Energy Diversification for Indonesian Development” on November 29th, 2019.

The Pertamina University Vice Chancellor I of Academic and Student Affairs, Prof. Dr. Ir. Ichsan Setya Putra, opened the 2019 SPACE UP event. In his remarks, Prof. Ichsan expressed that education and learning, including quality research, require ethos and ethics that maintain integrity.

The participants consisted of 42 colleges spread throughout Indonesia. In the paper competition category, 91 teams sent their abstracts. Afterwards, the participants send the full paper for further selection. From this selection, 38 teams remained. After passing the judging period, it was narrowed down to 11 team finalists that originated from Pertamina University, Gadjah Mada University (UGM), Brawijaya University (UNBRAW), UPN, Sebelas Maret State University (UNS), University of Indonesia (UI), Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), Bogor Agricultural University (IPB), and Sriwijaya University (UNSRI).

The topics of scientific papers sent by the participants were very diverse, including those on marine thermal energy, biogas from agricultural and livestock products, financing and investment in new and renewable energy, biochemistry for energy, as well as solar panels and energy from waste treatment. 

In addition to the competition, the 2019 SPACE UP seminar “Energy Innovation for Indonesian Development” was also held with inviting the guest speaker Kristyadi Winarto from PT Pertamina (Persero)’s Research and Technology Center (RTC) and Dr. Ir. Hariyanto, MT who represented the Director of Energy Conservation at the Directorate General of New, Renewable and Energy Conservation, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.

The 2019 SPACE UP competition produced several winners. In the paper competition category, first place was won by a team from IPB, second place was won by a team from ITB, and third place was won by a team from UNS. Whatever the category for best paper was won by a team from IPB and the best presentation was won by a team from ITB. As for the winners of the national scientific poster category, first place was won by a team from ITB, second place was won by a team from UGM, and the favorite winner was won by a team from Pertamina University.

 Vice President Corporate Communication of PT Pertamina (Persero), Fajriyah Usman, expressed his pride in the execution of the 2019 SPACE UP event. “PT Pertamina (Persero) is proud to support this activity, because energy diversification efforts need to be continued by students who will become the nation’s successors,” he said.
